| High hills,
empty glens and miles of coastline accessible only by sea make
the estate a haven for the ornithologist, the botanist, the hill
walker and the photographer.
Guests are free to explore the estate at their own
leisure or can participate in one or more of the activities offered,
some of which are seasonal.
Fly-Fishing, Red Deer Stalking, Rough Shooting
Amhuinnsuicthe Castle is acknowledged as one of the finest sporting
estates in Scotland. Ghillies are on hand and can offer full instruction
for beginners as well as professional tips for more experienced
guests.
The quality of the sea trout and salmon fishing on
the Amhuinnsuidhe Castle Estate is unsurpassed. There are seven
freshwater systems including Lochs Voshimid, Scourst, Halladale,
Ulladale, Ladies, A’Ghlinne and Brunabhal. The estate has
an enviable reputation throughout the fly fishing world. It caters
for the more experienced fisherman as well as the novice, for
whom instruction and guidance are readily available.
Except when the rivers are in spate, most of the fishing is done
Hebridean fashion from a boat. There are five resident ghillies
or stalkers to look after guests. Fishing is by fly only and ‘dapping’
which, when given right conditions, can be most effective. Spinning
and trolling are not permitted.

The big sea trout start to run in June, with the salmon a week
or two later. Weights are comparable to those found in similar
waters in Scotland and Ireland, while numbers are generally greater.
Sea trout average one to eight pounds, with salmon averaging five
to eight pounds although, increasingly, salmon of up to fifteen
pounds are being caught. The heaviest recorded salmon taken from
an Amhuinnsuidhe Loch is 18.75lbs and the heaviest sea trout 11
lbs. The best recent seasons have produced over 200 salmon and
over 900 sea trout.
