Barberstown Castle

Barberstown Castle was originally built in the 13th century and today is one of the oldest castles in Ireland still in operation. It is the only property of its kind which can boast such close proximity to Dublin City Centre and Dublin Airport (both 30 minutes away), whilst simultaneously providing guests with the country house luxury offering of a 'Blue Book' property.

Barberstown was one of the first great Irish country houses to display its splendor to the outside world when it opened as an hotel in 1971. It has recently undergone a multimillion euro refurbishment with careful attention given to retaining the unique castle features and style throughout the hotel. It has maintained the elegance of design over eight centuries by sympathetically blending its Victorian and Elizabethan extensions with the original castle battlement of 1290. Located in Straffan, Co. Kildare, guests can relax in pure calm and tranquility.

The history and character of Barberstown Castle is as fascinating as its
architecture. It is inextricably linked with the local area, which can be illustrated by the fact that there is an underground tunnel which runs from the Church in Straffan to the Castle. A Priest's Hole was recently found, built for the protection of local priests during Penal Times in Ireland.
