FERRIES INTO ORKNEY

From mainland Scotland there are two ferry routes to mainland Orkney

1. Scrabster Harbour, near Thurso, to Stromness with Northlink Ferries
2. Gills Bay, near Wick, to St Margaret's Hope with Pentland Ferries

It is possible to use a passenger only service from John o'Groats to Burwick

Booking your car on these ferries is essential.

Once on mainland Orkney you will need to make your way to Kirkwall Harbour
from where the Shapinsay ferry takes 25 minutes to sail the short distance to Balfour.

The castle is a one minute drive from Shapinsay Pier.

Fly into Kirkwall Airport via London, Edinburgh, Inverness or Aberdeen www.ba.com and www.hial.co.uk

Take a taxi at the airport and tell the driver you are going to Balfour Castle and you will be delivered to Kirkwall Harbour in 7 minutes.
