Things to do, places to go......
ANTRIM COAST ROAD AND GLENS OF ANTRIM
The Glens of Antrim are naturally unique - within twenty five square miles you can enjoy amazing variations in the natural landscape that includes glacial valleys, sandy beaches, vertical cliffs, a tundra plateau, wooded glens, waterfalls
and picturesque villages. Ancient sites and places of intrigue abound - it is well worth taking a couple of days to explore this naturally beautiful area.
GIANT'S CAUSEWAY
For centuries, countless visitors have marvelled at the majesty and
mystery of the Giants Causeway. At the heart of one of Europe's most
magnificent coastlines, its unique rock formations have, for millions
of years, stood as a natural rampart against the unbridled ferocity
of Atlantic storms. The rugged symmetry of the columns never fails to
intrigue and inspire visitors. To stroll on the Giants Causeway is to
voyage back in time.
In 1986 the Giants Causeway Visitors Centre opened, and if you want
to learn more about the gentle giant called Finn MacCool and his rival
giant called Benandonner in Scotland, this is the place to visit.
CARRICK-A-REDE ROPE BRIDGE
Spanning a chasm some eighty feet deep is the famous Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge, it's construction once consisted of a single rope hand rail and widely spaced slats which the fishermen would traverse across with salmon caught off the island. The single handrail was
subsequently replaced by a two hand railed bridge, the current, caged bridge was installed by the National Trust during Easter of 2000 as a further safety measure. Although no-one has ever been injured falling off the old bridge, there have been many instances of visitors being unable to face the return walk back across the bridge, resulting in them being taken off the island by boat. This is well worth stopping at to admire the breathtaking scenery and views to Rathlin Island.
BUSHMILLS DISTILLERY
The 'Old Bushmills' Distillery is the World's Oldest Licensed Whiskey
Distillery. King James I granted the original license in April 1608
and Bushmills has been making the finest Irish Malt Whiskey here for
almost four hundred years. Situated two miles from the spectacular Giant's
Causeway, and one mile from the historical Dunluce Castle, the distillery
lies in an area of outstanding beauty, which is rich in history and
folklore.
