Weddings...
Barcaldine Castle offers something truly beautiful. An historic 16th century Scottish castle set on the shores of Loch Creran with breathtaking views. A romantic and exclusive wedding venue where you can relax and enjoy the intimacy of your own castle for the day.
With magical photo opportunities both inside and out, antique furnishings, open fires, a walled garden, the stunning backdrop of the mountains of Glencoe and all the splendour of a traditional turreted castle.
Planning your day
The aim of the experienced team is to offer you individual care and attention to detail. Flexibility is the order of the day and there are no set packages; every wedding is organised to suit the requirements of the couple. The experienced service team is readily contactable from 8am to 8pm 7 days a week to promptly answer even the smallest query you may have. The castle has extensive contacts from local singers to firework displays; you can be assured a very memorable day!
The ceremony
Barcaldine Castle has the appropriate licence to host civil marriages and is firmly established as one of the foremost venues for the celebration of marriage on the West Coast of Scotland. Wedding ceremonies are conducted in the Great Hall, Laird’s Parlour (small weddings for up to 10 guests) and by the sundial in the garden.
Often very quiet weddings are hosted at the castle with just the couple present and witnesses can be provided if required. It suits some couples to ‘slip away’ to the tranquillity of Barcaldine and marry quietly, enjoy a bottle of champagne by the fire and perhaps use the services of a local guide to capture further photo opportunities in the area and then have a celebration party with friends and family at a later date.
The maximum number of seated guests for a wedding ceremony in the castle is 60.
Wedding ceremony facility fees range from £300 to £1500 and include VAT. Rates are quoted individually and vary according to the number of people in the party, the time of year and duration of stay etc. A full written quotation will be given once we have established your preferences.
The Registrar charges £290 to conduct a wedding at Barcaldine
Castle. The Registrar is booked and paid separately by the couple and can be
contacted on 01631 567930 or email
gemma.cummins@argyll-bute.gov.uk. A minimum of 4-6 weeks notice is recommended.
The local Minister makes no charge but a donation to the local churches is welcome and you also need to pay to have the marriage registered. Rev Jeff MacCormick can be contacted on 01631 710364.
The celebration
The castle is not licensed to sell alcohol and there are limited catering facilities due to the castle's layout and size, however the following options are available:
CEREMONY ONLY with BYO (bring your own) champagne (service charge £8/bottle) or wine/sparkling wine (service charge £5/bottle). The castle will supply the glasses, chilling facility and someone to serve a celebratory drink for you and your guests whilst photographs are being taken.
CEREMONY with DRINKS AND CANAPE RECEPTION – as above but a selection of canapés (6 per person) with a choice such as: smoked salmon blini, parma ham and strawberry, haggis bon bon, confit duck tartlet, avocado mousse on a mini oatcake.
Minimum 10 guests - £10 per person
CEREMONY followed by AFTERNOON TEA – a delicious traditional afternoon tea served on elegant cake stands with antique china tea cups and a selection of homemade finger sandwiches, scones and pastries.
Minimum 2 guests, maximum 40 guests - £19.50 per person.
Optional BYO champagne and wedding cake.
EARLY EVENING CEREMONY followed by a CELIDH – marry at 6pm and, after drinks and photographs, run on into an evening of celebration with a local celidh band; bring your own dance music or alternate with both. Buffet supper at 8pm. An informal fork buffet supper with an extensive range of choices. BYO alcoholic beverages with modest service charge and finish time 12 midnight.
Suitable for 25 to 60 guests. Exclusive use prices from £2000 - £4500.
CEREMONY AT BARCALDINE CASTLE followed by a TRADITIONAL SIT DOWN WEDDING RECEPTION AT BARCALDINE HOUSE HOTEL – The castle staff have worked closely with Barcaldine House on many wonderful weddings and the combination of using both properties offers the grandeur and magic of the castle for your wedding ceremony with the space and elegance of the house for your reception meal and dance (or perhaps a further option would be to return to the castle after dinner for an evening celidh). The two properties are 2 miles apart and a minibus shuttle can be organised. With room for up to 40 guests, Barcaldine House will capture the hearts of the whole wedding party (even that notoriously hard-to-please maiden aunt!). The food is outstanding, whether you prefer the formal wedding breakfast or something a little more offbeat.
