On the ground floor, off the small entrance hall, the vaulted kitchen/dining room, with its oak dining table in the centre, is equipped with an extensive range of high quality cooking and dining equipment, including a large range cooker, dishwasher and microwave. There is also a small cloakroom/WC on this floor.

Dining Room

A stone spiral staircase leads up to the great hall, with its massive fireplace, oak beamed ceiling and slate flagged floor. The ceiling has been wonderfully painted in rich colours by artist Jennifer Merredew, depicting many birds, beasts, plants and Celtic motifs in traditional late Mediaeval style. There are window seats set within the 4 foot thick walls and solid antique furniture. Underfloor heating keeps this large room cosy; and a roaring log fire adds atmosphere. The bookcase has plenty of reading material, including a good collection of Scottish and local books and children’s books and there are a few games and a large screen television for evenings and rainy days.
