Birkhill has 10 double bedrooms and bathrooms, each decorated
in keeping with the comfortable grandeur of the castle. Two
of the double rooms have 4-poster beds and large "dressing
rooms" with additional single beds. All have bathrooms.
In addition there are two single rooms. The castle is able
to accommodate a maximum of 20 adults and 4 children people.
Guests are free to relax in the drawing room and library which
has an extensive collection of books.
Dining at Birkhill, whether a formal 5 course dinner or an
informal lunch, is always relaxed. The dining room can seat
up 20 people round the main dining table or, for larger groups,
can have up to four tables of 8/10. All of the food is prepared
using the best local organic ingredients. These include vegetables
grown in the gardens, game from the estate and salmon from
the River Tay. An example menu would be: Three layered Souflée,
Roast Lamb and Plum Tart. Breakfast is served in the breakfast
room next to the kitchen and typically consists of scrambled
eggs, grilled tomatoes etc., yoghurt, fruit, toast, tea and
coffee.
The castle doesn't believe in dictating
to clients what they should eat and will do its best at
all times to meet clients' requirements. The castle can
provide wines and a bar to guests' requirements and does
not charge corkage.
There is a wide range of indoor and outdoor facilities at
Birkhill. In the shelter of the walled garden there is a
heated 40 foot swimming pool, with changing rooms, which
is open throughout the summer months. Beside the castle
are a tennis court, giant trampoline and play equipment.
There is a lawn for croquet and a huge barbeque on the private
beach on the banks of the Tay river. Snooker and billiards
can be enjoyed in the billiard room which also has an ever
popular mini football game. |
