Blairquhan offers you exclusive use of this magnificent Scottish Castle.
The salon is 60 feet high, and has 22 doors. Busts are of Wellington, Apollo, Napoleon and Sir Walter Scott. The brass ventilator in the centre of the room was originally for heating - much appreciated by Victorian ladies in long skirts emerging from a cold session in the dining room. In Edwardian times there was a pianola in this room for dancing. Portraits are of family.
The Castle and The Estate
Weddings
It would be difficult to think of a more romantic place for a wedding than Blairquhan. Listed number 14 by the Independent newspaper in their list of the 50 best places to get married in the world.
Corporate Events
The castle is an ideal place for corporate entertainment, events, and conferences.
Filming
Blairquhan is a unique location for filming, most recently host to the award winning film, starring Helen Mirren as The Queen.
Cuisine
Menus are prepared especially for your occasion, and whenever possible local produce is used by the chef.
The Estate
Sir David Hunter Blair was an enthusiastic and successful amateur landscape architect. In 1803 he commissioned a professional, Thomas White, to draw up a plan for “improving” the park at Blairquhan. But, in the end, he followed his own ideas.
The Long Approach
The 3 mile approach to the castle along the River Girvan is, perhaps, his best achievement. The entrance is by a William Burn bridge and lodge.
The drive then enters a narrower gorge of the river. There are waterfalls at Tranew Linn and at the Linn. Then on the left, after about 2 miles, the castle comes into view. Behind is Craigengower, on the summit of which is a monument to the memory of Colonel James Hunter Blair MP, the eldest son of Sir David. He was killed at the battle of Inkerman in 1854.
