At first sight, Castle Levan, overlooking the banks of the River
Clyde, appears to be a romantic 16th century tower-house built on
a typical Scottish L-plan; however, all is not how it seems.
The present
structure of Castle Levan started as a massive 14th century tower
that was later extended in the 15th century by abutting an additional
tower. The
castle is an exceptional family home of immense historical significance
dominating an enviable setting with broad panoramic aspects over
the Firth of Clyde, viewing to Dunoon, Holy Loch, Loch Long, Ben
Lomond and the Trossach mountain range.
