Cloghan Castle is located in Loughrea, some 15 miles from Galway City in Ireland. The city's airport lies 18 miles away, and the castle is 40 miles from Shannon airport.

Also close is the Burren (from the Gaelic word Boireann), an area of limestone rock covering imposing majestic mountains, and tranquil valleys with gently meandering streams. The Cliffs of Moher, which take their name from a ruined promontory fort, Mothar, are majestic 200 metre high cliffs and are only a short car journey away.
