GROUNDS AND GARDEN
Within the grounds of Cringletie House you will find a real waterfall,
an historic and listed dovecote, a crocket lawn and even a pitch and
putt. The 16th century walled garden is amongst the oldest in Scotland
and contains not only a fully functioning Victorian glasshouse, but
one can also play a game of outdoor chess and draughts and even pétanque
(jeu de boules).
WOODLANDS
There are several acres of woodlands on the estate and they are being maintained to the highest standard. Every tree that had to be removed is being replaced by many new plants, so that the woods will remain attractive now and well into the future. Obviously, they are bustling with wildlife.
PADDOCK
The paddock is in full view from the house. It is rented by
Cringletie's neighbour farmer, Ian McLeod, who uses it as part of his
Cringletie Farm. Regularly you can see sheep, horses or Highland Cattle.
WALLED GARDEN
The walled garden has been restored to its old glory. The centerpiece
is the 400 year old yew hedge, that remains as impressive as ever. Maintaining
and restoring its wonderful shape is a longlasting affair.
A
large part of the walled garden is dedicated to the growing of fruit
and vegetables. Primarily special vegetables are grown, that are not
so easy to get from the house's day to day vegetable suppliers. Examples
are black tomatoes, purple broccoli, and special potatoes.
A wealth of hard and soft fruit is harvested every year from the fruit trees and Cringletie's fruit cage.
A whole sector of the walled garden is dedicated to outdoor games.
Chess, draughts and pétanque (jeu de boules).
