In Medieval times, life at Dalhousie Castle would have been anything but stress free, but now all that has changed with the introduction of what was Scotland’s very first hydro spa.

For the ultimate in relaxation, Aqueous has been created, a hydro spa, the first of its kind in Scotland. Aqueous combines relaxing and therapeutic spa treatments and spa packages with invigorating and rejuvenating facilities. These include everything from the Hydro Pool, with its multi-massage jet pool, to the Laconium, a Roman style sauna with underfloor and seat heating, and from the Ottoman, a Turkish style steam bath, to the Tropical Rain and Cold Fog Shower, which gently refreshes your senses and invigorates your body.



You can benefit from a wide choice of therapeutic and beauty treatments that range from complete exfoliating and moisturising to Japanese silk eye zone therapy, and from manicures and pedicures to aromatherapy face treatments for men. We have also created some Special Aqueous Spa packages for you.

There’s even a small and highly personalised hairdressing salon to add the final touches to the new you.

Spa Facilities

HYDRO POOL
Cleanse mind and body in the Hydro Pool, a beautiful feature of the spa area. A multi massage jet pool incorporating an airbed, neck and specific muscular body massage jets. Designed to relieve aches and pains leaving one feeling energized and invigorated.

OTTOMAN
A Turkish style steam bath with similar heating principals as the Laconium. No major fluctuations in heat and the volume of steam can be varied to achieve different comforting effects. Aroma essences can be introduced and relax the user.

Kneipp Hoses are provided to cool down the body and stimulate circulation.

TROPICAL RAIN AND COLD FOG SHOWER
Activate your senses with the Tropical Rain and Cold Fog snail shaped shower and its unique lighting effects. The Tropical Rain incorporates scents of passion fruit and a lighting effect to induce a feeling of warmth and well being. Cold Fog replaces a traditional plunge pool, to cool down the body after heat exposure. A mint scent helps refresh the mind and body.

KNEIPP FOOT BATHS
Cools the body’s circulation in a sociable setting.

TEPIDARIUM
Enjoy a new feeling of well being in the Conservatory Rotunda Tepidarium, overlooking the South Esk River. Relax at your leisure and enjoy the spectacular view.

SPA TREATMENTS
Specifically formulated therapeutic and beauty treatments designed by Comfort Zone and Finders to purify, rejuvenate and nourish the body whilst aiding complete relaxation.

THE ORANGERY
Easily accessible from the spa. Enjoy fresh foods, and light dishes from the new Mediterranean menu. This conservatory style facility overlooking the South Esk River is an ideal place to rest, replenish and unwind.

RASUL
A small chamber in which you apply black mud to give your body and mind a relaxing cleanse. Please note that booking is essential and there is a charge of £25 per person and £40 per couple.
