There are many local attraction close to Markree Castle for you to enjoy and keep you occupied on your visit to the castle. The town of Sligo offers a wide range of things to do and places to visit. With over 60 pubs and restraunts, a stay at Markree Castle and a visit to Sligo, is the perfect opportunity to relax for a few days away from home.

There's the "Carrowmore". This is the largest megalithic cemetry in Ireland and amongst the oldest and most important in Europe. There is also W.B. Yeats' Grave. This is the monumental resting place of Yeats, located at Drumcliff.

The Inishmurray, which on this small island, abandoned by its inhabitants in 1948, is a remarkable assemblage of Early Christian remains that gives a good idea of what monastic settlements were like. The island can only be reached by boat. It's easy to see why so many people keep coming back to Markree Castle and Sligo town, as it has something to offer everyone.
