Horse Riding - Pentland Hill Icelandics
Pentland Hills Icelandics offer off-road riding throughout the year over
some of Scotland's most spectacular Border countryside. The Icelandic
horses climb with amazing foot sure ability and ease. They oblige their
riders by being keen and interested and show great stamina and intelligence
as they negotiate burns, bogs, steep banks and gullies.
They take great care to match the horses with the ability and aspirations
of riders - so you get the maximum enjoyment from your ride. If you are
experienced and want to enjoy the unique gaits and long gallops, you will
be mounted on spirited sensitive horses which love to go fast. If you
are not so sure and would prefer to focus on the magnificent views and
the hugeness of the outdoors, more sedate animals will be chosen for you.
They have direct access to a wide range of terrain around Windy Gowl -
grouse moors, rough hill, forestry, rivers and valleys. Along the pathways,
you will have breathtaking views across the Pentland Hills, the Moorfoots
and the Lammermuirs and you will enjoy the peace and tranquility of life
in the wild. Rub shoulders with an assortment of bird life like buzzards,
skylarks, curlews, peregrines as well as seeing glimpses of foxes, badgers,
roe deer, rare butterflies ....... all this just a short drive from Melville
Castle.
