Originating in Asia and the Middle East 4000 years ago, falconry was adopted in Europe by various royal families in the Middle Ages.
Known as the ancient sport of Kings, Falconry is still seen as something of an elitist activity in this country. However, several centres have opened allowing visitors to experience the beauty and wonder of these birds of prey close up.
Melville Castle is fortunate enough to be situated close to a falconry centre, which not only welcomes guests with open arms but, if there are sufficient numbers, it brings the falconry display to the grounds of the castle.
Falconry must be booked in advance of your arrival.
