All of Scotland's magic in one enchanted haven

Pitcastle has a wealth of activities for both sporting and non-sporting visitors alike - if stalking and shooting is not your thing then we guarantee that you’ll find something here that will make your visit more than just a holiday.
Whether you're a sporting enthusiast,
twitcher, extreme sports fanatic or amateur photographer this is
probably one of the best places in the world to indulge in whatever
it is you're passionate about. Situated on and around the world famous
River Tay and providing a home to diverse wildlife against a spectacular
backdrop, Pitcastle and Highland Perthshire will turn your dream
trip into an unforgettable, tangible experience.
The Estate
Whatever it is about Scotland that lures you to this beautiful country,
you can probably find it here at Pitcastle...from the spectacular
landscape to the miles of open sky, fantastic sporting activities
to the diverse and fascinating wildlife...it's all here in one magical
place.
On the estate you can try your hand at clay pigeon shooting, archery, croquet or racket sports… or perhaps you prefer to be out and about…we’re home to some of the world’s most spectacular wildlife – you can regularly spot red squirrel, stoats, weasels, otters and wild mink and, on occasion, pine martin and wild cat. The variety of flora and fauna will keep your camera busy for days.
Roe, red and fallow deer live in the woods and fields around the estate and a few of these are kept in the deer park up on the estate hills. You can be taken up there and have them feeding them out of your hands – something the kids will remember for years to come.
For the twitcher, this is bird heaven
There is a marvellous variety of bird life at Pitcastle – almost 100 species. Because the terrain extends from the low ground by the river to the mountaintops, virtually all conditions exist to suit the different species.
Osprey can often be seen above the moor lochs along with Peregrine Falcons, Merlins and Hen Harriers…Duck, Black-headed Gulls and occasional Grouse can also be found and, if you are very lucky, you may also see a Golden Eagle. On the lower ground, Kestrels and Buzzards hunt the skies, while Sparrowhawks patrol the hedgerows and woods.
Among gamebirds, the Blackcock (Black Grouse), Pheasant, Red Grouse and Partridge are often seen and, very rarely, a Capercaillie.
Garden birds include Whitethroat, Yellowhammer, Siskin, Longtailed Tit, Scottish Crossbill and Goldcrest. Don’t forget a good pair of binoculars!
Fishing and stalking
Set amongst spectacular Highland landscape, the stalking and fishing days out
are led by the estate's own experienced stalkers who know everything – and
more – that there is to know about these ancient sports.
Both estates – Pitcastle and sister estate, Glenlochay - offer an outstanding fishing and stalking experience – simply one of the best in Scotland. With both red stag and hinds and roe buck and doe on the estate's land as well as salmon and trout fishing on the private three-quarter mile stretch of the River Tay and rainbow and brown trout in some of the estate's 9 lochans, there is no shortage of sporting opportunities for seasoned sportsmen and women.
Shooting
For those interested in shooting, the estate is abound with woodpigeon and pheasant.
Mini-drives and walked up pheasant and partridge shoots are available as well
as duck flighting on the top lochs – a simply stunning setting to indulge in
this sport. If you are interested in shooting you must be accompanied by the
eEstate Keeper who will provide his invaluable experience to ensure as successful
a shoot as possible.
Finally, there is a clay pigeon trap by the main house. If you’ve never tried it then now’s your chance! This sport is great fun for everyone, young and old and the castle's experienced hands will have you shooting on target in no time!
