spent his childhood in the area and both Portlick Castle
and Glasson are featured in a number of his works. In fact
the original "busy mill" which features in his
poetry now forms some of the structure of the local public
house, The Three Jolly Pigeons.
The Jonathon Swift Amenity Park, Lilliput,
Lough Ennell is located 45 minutes from the castle and offers
golf, boating, a blue flag bathing area, and children's
play facility.
The Athlone Castle Visitor Centre,
St Peters Square, Athlone is a 13th century castle, hosting
an impressive exhibition of its dramatic and exciting past.
