Hattonchatel is named after the 9th century bishop of Verdun, who built
a palace on a rocky promontory overlooking the Seille Valley. Unfortunately
Cardinal Richelieu had parts of the building destroyed in 1634,
but
just after the first world war, Belle Skinner, an American lady, fell
in love with the village and helped
restore
the château and the ancestral
history of the region. What you find now is a charming village with many interesting sights located in the magnificent Seille Valley with the château at its centre.
