Easterheughs Castle is a real story of how a fantasy can turn into a reality. This story started during the Second World War when a Mr William Thomas, a member of the home guard, found the perfect location for his lifetime dream whilst on guard of the coast line. It wasn’t long before the castle was under motion, bringing together Medieval designs and a new vernacular architecture. Since this time, the castle has had a couple of different owners, each adding their own style to the castle, but only recently in 2002 was the castle bought by the Liverpool and Arsenal football player, Jimmy Carter. Easterheughs underwent a huge restoration project to bring the castle back to an extremely high standard that now makes the property an amazing place for a luxury holiday and a fantastic experience for a group of family and friends.
This Scottish Style Tower House lies on the well-known Firth of Forth shores, as it flows into the North Sea, giving the castle a superb location, not only in terms of spectacular views, but also in the fact that it is located only 20 minutes away from Scotland’s capital, Edinburgh. Being set in such an amazing location and because of its fantastic restoration, the property can often be mistaken for an original 16th/17th century tower house, with its fantastic landscaped grounds offering an amazing opportunity to explore so many more beautiful places right on the castle’s doorstep.
This self-catering castle is let out on a weekly basis and houses, at the most, 12 people. Once inside this architectural jigsaw, the interior is just as breath taking as the exterior. Explore the castle and you’ll be stuck on where to put yourself with such amazing views from all sides and the most unusual but sympathetic rooms. You will struggle for choice!
Walk through the doors and straight away its beauty will strike you as you face an antique turreted staircase leading its way to the upper floors. A large dining room can be found on the lower floor, with the most exquisite dining table and original features to the room. Also on this floor can be found a kitchen, a study and also a downstairs cloak room, complete with granite work-tops.
Once a bit more investigation is underway, you will find your way up onto the first floor, on which you will discover a large drawing room. However this is only the first surprise on this floor, as when you investigate a bit further, you will find the ‘secret room’! The ‘secret room’ is the perfect room for your evening entertainment and, in there, you will find a small movie theatre with original cinema seats, refreshments and even remote control lighting!
In total there are 6 bedrooms within this property, all elegantly styled, each with its own character. All the rooms are fitted with either antique double beds or twin beds that can be changed for preference to super king size beds. In my opinion, the most amazing of rooms in the wonderful castle is bedroom number 5. Within this bedroom you will straight away feel the Italian Renaissance theme to the room. The room features a dome shaped ceiling with a beautiful antique continental king-size bed, fitted with matching bedroom features, such as wardrobes. The most impressive part doesn’t stop here – the second door from this bedroom leads out onto a roof terrace, from which you can see the most amazing views towards Edinburgh across the Firth of Forth. On a clear day you can see for miles and the beauty is untameable.
The 6th room, however, you won’t find in the castle itself. The castle actually has an annexe on the side, which houses one double bedroom with a modern white bathroom suite. The annexe also contains a large living area, which leads to the kitchen. So if you are wanting a bit of peace and quiet, away from the rest of the your party, then the annexe is your perfect option, still capturing those amazing views.
Imagine spending a week in this unbelievable setting, with sole use for you and your party of an amazing castle. Well grab this amazing chance and have a fantastic stay away, whether it is for a corporate event or just a family break away.
