The Belle Isle Estate has undergone a green revolution and is said to be the most eco-friendly within the Celtic Castles portfolio. The castle manager, Charles, has been working hard to create a property that not only has a reduced carbon footprint, but encourages conservation and sustainable development.
The first step on their eco-adventure was the installation of a boiler, fuelled by wood pellets instead of the traditional oil. The use of wood bio-fuel releases no more C02 than if it had been left to rot, whereas the combustion of oil releases incredible amounts of the greenhouse gas.
After such success with the boiler, it fell to Charles to replace all 553 light bulbs with energy saving bulbs. He is currently working on the installation of solar panels at the property and such hard work has resulted in both the property and him being awarded the internationally accredited EU Flower Ecolabel.
The Isle has now been designated a Special Site of Scientific Interest in attempts to protect the local ecosystem and the species within it. This means that the magnificent beauty of the Isle cannot be disturbed or changed.
So if you’re looking for a castle that allows you comfort, luxury and beautiful surroundings, but doesn’t harm the planet, Belle Isle is definitely for you!
