"FOR any man, proposing to his future wife is a tense and nerve-racking moment. Halifax entrepreneur Roger Masterson understands it more than most as his company celticcastles.com, whose venues include Hazlewood Castle and Swinton Park, is regularly used to book stunning venues for marriage proposals.

The entrepreneur - who has been married for 11 years - says its not now much the would-be groom spends on his proposal that matters, but the effort poured into planning it which wins the brownie points. One of his personal favourites is arranging a treasure hunt:

"Posting a letter or having a friend hand your soon-to-be-bride a letter containing clues to where to start the treasure hunt will build the excitement and anticipation. You can include several clues that lead to small gifts such as flowers, a CD and chocolates - with the last clue leading her directly to where you are waiting to propose. You will score extra brownie points for creativity, showing that you have put a great deal of thought into your proposal. "

Jetaway

Dalhousie Castle is Jetaway April/May 2008

"Book an intimate nook in the ancient vaulted dungeon of Dalhousie Castle, an imposing 13th-century fortress near Edinburgh, and you'll enjoy a candle-lit dinner in the shadow of suits of armour, medieval weaponry and centuries of Scottish history. Starters might include pan fried foie gras on a lentil tartlette with roast parsnips and a port wine jus. Main courses offer delights such as squab pigeon stuffed with wild mushrooms and caramelised endive. Puddings are favourite classics along the lines of Cranachan, banoffee pie or a plate of local cheeses served with oatcakes.Work up an appetite first by taking a long, romantic walk in the castle's grounds-acres of wooded parkland on the picturesque banks of the River Esk - or stop by the falconry and visit the awe-inspiring collection of birds of prey. Couples who get married at Dalhousie can have the rings delivered during the ceremony by an owl. What a hoot!".
