There are so many different castles to choose from, so where do you start? This is a quick and easy 4-step guide to help you pinpoint your perfect castle.

Where...

The first thing I always suggest is to look at your preferred location; do you or your group need easy access to the castle, or are you happy to be within 3 hours of an international airport? If you have a county or city in mind that you want to be close to, this has to be your starting point. If you would like a sea view, to be in the Highlands of Scotland or 2 hours from London, put this criteria into the mix, as this is important. You might also want to be within walking distance of an Irish pub! Once you have decided where you would like to be, this will make it much easier for us to help you.

What...

The feel are you looking for; luxury stone walls or modern boutique? Do you want a true castle experience with rustic, stone walls or a more modern boutique style of interior? This is a critical question to ask to narrow down the castle options to choose from. Think about the memories you want to take away with you from the castle; this is always a good way to help you focus on your requirements. You may also start to list the 'must have' elements...Do all the rooms have to be en-suite or are you happy to share a few of the bathrooms? Do you need a pool table or swimming pool (not many have a pool!)? Do you want a roaring fire in the castle or in your bedroom?

Numbers...

Castles come in all shapes and sizes, so how many are in your party? Is it just for 2, 20 or 220? This is a great way to narrow down your search very quickly. For example, if you are looking for self-catering castle accommodation or a castle for exclusive-use, some may only accommodate 20 people in 10 bedrooms. Parties from 20 to 40 people could take over a few cottages on a castle's estate and there are lots of castles that fit into this category. Self-catering castles tend to accommodate from 6 – 20 people.

Budget...

Price is an important factor for most people (although if you have no budgetary restraints we can certainly share some amazing castles with you!). You need to have a good idea of how much you want to spend; this will help to make your search more efficient. We give guide prices where we can and all the castles on our website have a tariff page. If you are planning to stay in a castle hotel, prices can range from £80 - £3500 per night, for a bedroom with breakfast. If you are interested in self-catering accommodation, the price range can be from £1,000 up to £11,000 for a week and, when you start to look at exclusive-use and fully staffed properties, these start at £8,000 to £50,000 and upwards.

Whatever you are looking for, you will find information on our listing by region; check out the 'at a glance' section as well. If you can click on the castle name, you'll find more information about the castle, great images and prices, as well as the history linked to the property.

You are very welcome to use our free castle-finding service; our experts are always on-hand to compare and contrast the different castles that meet your requirements. This will help you shortlist the right castles more quickly; we know these castles very well!

So please enjoy the castles as you meander through the site or, if you want to shortcut the search, just let us know what you want and speak to a castle expert.
