The explorer's Garden

2 minutes' drive from Fonab Castle
45 minutes' drive from Scone Palace

Set in over six acres of wonderful woodland garden, located next to Pitlochry's famous Festival Theatre, The Explorers Garden is a special garden which celebrates the life and work of Scottish Plant Hunters.

It is a haven of peace and quiet in the midst of the town. Divided into glades and zones that represent different parts of the world, connected by winding pathways and surprising spaces, you can follow in the footsteps of horticulturists from a bygone era and journey around the world in half a day.

blair castle garden

15 minutes' drive from Fonab Castle
55 minutes' drive from Scone Palace

Blair Castle, an RHS partner garden, was featured in series 2 of the acclaimed BBC drama 'Victoria'. A life-size statue of Hercules overlooks the nine-acre walled garden with landscaped ponds, a Chinese bridge and an orchard of more than 100 fruit trees.

Highland cattle graze in fields nearby and the native red squirrel can often be spotted amongst tree branches. The herbaceous borders are the crowning glory of this garden during summer months.

Drummond Castle garden

1 hour's drive from Fonab Castle
45 minutes' drive from Scone Palace

Drummond Castle Gardens are one of Europe’s most impressive formal gardens with a long history, dating back to the 17th century.

Redesigned and terraced in the 19th century, the gardens that you see today were replanted in the 1950s but preserve many of the original features...the ancient yew hedges and the remaining beech tree planted by Queen Victoria, commemorating her visit in 1842.

The gardens have featured in many films, TV programmes and adverts, most notably in the United Artists feature film Rob Roy and the Outlander series.

Scone Palace Garden

On site at Scone Palace

The gardens at this Scottish palace are beautiful throughout the year; snowdrops in February, followed by the drifts of daffodils throughout spring, primulas and bluebells bloom in the woodland areas throughout April/May and in June the grounds see an explosion of colour with rhododendrons and azaleas.

The Murray Star Maze is a favourite with visitors, as are the well-stocked kitchen gardens which supply fresh produce for the palace kitchens. An abundance of wildlife can be seen throughout the estate; from red squirrels and butterflies to a select few albino peacocks which roam the grounds freely.
