Scotland is filled with historic castles and beautiful cities and makes for a great holiday destination. This four-night self-drive tour offers you the opportunity to experience both, whilst staying in two very different Scottish castles.

Days 1 & 2

For the city portion of this 'Town and Country' break, you will spend two nights at Melville Castle, just 20 minutes' drive from Edinburgh city centre.

With a vast array of tourist attractions available to you, your time in Edinburgh will be filled to the brim.

Take a stroll down the world-renowned Royal Mile, through the heart of Edinburgh's Old Town,  and take in the sights and smells of arguably the most historic part of the city. Standing proudly at the end of the Royal Mile is Edinburgh Castle; an impenetrable fortress, dating back to the 12th-century, stood atop an extinct volcano.

For animal lovers, Edinburgh Zoo is well worth a visit. Home to the UK's only giant pandas, Tian Tian and Yang Guang, the zoo is Edinburgh's second most popular tourist attraction.

Days 3 & 4

Drive one hour north from Melville Castle to the beautiful Culcreuch Castle, set at the heart of a 1,600-acre estate at the foot of the Fintry Hills.

Spend two nights at this historic 13th-century castle, a beautiful property that was home to the Barons of Culcreuch for almost 300 years.

Just 30 minutes' drive from Loch Lomond, perhaps one of the most famous bodies of water the world over and definitely one of Scotland's most picturesque areas, Culcreuch Castle is in a great location for those who love spending time in the great outdoors. Hill-walking, golf, watersports and distillery visits are a few of the opportunities available to guests within just 15 minutes of the castle.
