• History

Barcaldine Castle is a 17th-century tower, located just 9 miles north of Oban. The castle was built between 1572 and 1609 by Sir Duncan ‘Black’ Campbell. The castle served as primary residence for the Campbells for well over 100 years before falling into disrepair after the family moved to Barcaldine House, a historic mansion just 3.5 miles' north of the castle.

The castle was then restored in 1897 by Sir Duncan Campbell, 3rd Baronet of Barcaldine. Set on the shores of Loch Creran with breathtaking views of the surrounding Glencoe mountains, Barcaldine Castle now operates as a boutique bed & breakfast hotel.
