On the Estate

Fishing - Blairquhan Estate has approximately one mile of what is perhaps the most attractive stretch on the River Girvan in which there are 3 named pools.

The Garden - The gardens were laid out by John Tweedie (1775-1862), a native of Lanarkshire, who worked at Castlehill in Ayr and, in 1816, came to work at Blairquhan. Afterwards he laid out the gardens at Eglinton Castle and, in 1825, he emigrated to Argentina, where he became a leading agriculturist and plant-hunter.

Loch Fishing - There is a loch on the estate. The Garden Pond is available to fish for holiday cottage guests without charge.

Tree Trail - There is a tree trail with many interesting varieties. There are beautiful views across the Approach Loch to the hills. This is a wonderful place for summer lunches or barbecues.

Golf - Ayrshire has well over 30 golf courses to choose from, ideally situated to allow the keen golfer to play on a different course every day of the week, including the world renowned Turnberry and the Prestwick.

History - Robert Burns, Scotland's National Poet, was born at nearby Alloway. Explore Burns Cottage and Museum, Burns Monument, the Brig o'Doon and haunted Alloway Kirk and relax at the Tam o'Shanter Experience Visitor Centre.

"What a wonderful evening it was in such a beautiful setting. I heard glowing reports from our guests. Blairquhan has such a lovely atmosphere and we were so grateful for all of the help. Thank you again and I hope we may repeat the event another time."
