Château Rhianfa is a Grade II-listed château on the banks of the Menai Strait, with views across to the towering peaks of Snowdonia; the perfect location from which to explore Anglesey and North Wales.
Built as a gift to Lady Sarah Hay Williams from her husband John, the stunning architecture was inspired by Lady Sarah’s sketches of her favourite châteaux in France's Loire Valley.
Every last detail has been thought about at Château Rhianfa. From the music and drawing rooms to the turret showers and summer and winter balconies, it’s easy to be impressed with this beautiful château.
Stay in one of 27 individually-styled rooms, 16 of which are in the main building. Rhianfa is the perfect location for romantic getaways, weddings, or to celebrate special occasions with loved ones.

The château was built in 1849 by Sir John Hay-Williams, Baronet of Bodelwyddan, as a gift for his wife, Lady Sarah. Beautifully positioned on the water, the artistic design was influenced by the couple’s travels in the Loire region of France, where they were particularly enamoured with the architectural style favoured in the region during the reign of Francois I (1515-1547).
Lady Sarah desired that everything would be perfect and no detail overlooked. The magnificent interiors were chosen by her own hand and, to honour her exquisite taste and connect the French-style château to its newly formed Welsh roots, the house was christened “Rhianfa” (put forward by the local vicar), which means ladies' abode.
Over recent years, great care has been taken to preserve the treasured French-style architecture through gentle restoration, to ensure the historic charm and unique character of Château Rhianfa can be enjoyed for many years to come.
