Staying at Craigston Castle
As guests of the Urquhart family you will have your choice of room, each beautifully decorated with period furniture, including original four-poster beds. Each room has its own bathroom. Cots are available upon prior request.
In the evening you can sit by a roaring log fire in the drawing or ante-drawing rooms and enjoy a good whisky from one of the many local distilleries.
The castle has a fully equipped traditional kitchen, with modern appliances for self-catering. Meals can be eaten in the kitchen or dining room.
Your hosts can help you choose from the best local produce: game, lamb and Highland beef from the estate; fish from nearby Macduff; and seasonal, organic vegetables from Craigston's neighbour.
Complimentary Wi-Fi is provided.
Room Descriptions
Fraser Room
This lovely little room is named after old family friends (the Frasers of Castle Fraser) who used to be regular guests and always stayed in this room. This room has two double beds one though is a very small antique double which is probably only suitable for a single person. This room has a dedicated bathroom just a few steps away.
The Kings Room
This room is so called because it is believed that various kings (though there is no record of which ones) stayed here in the past. It has two single beds and a dedicated bathroom that is just a few steps away. The room next door is called the Barrack Room where it is believed the king’s guards slept.
The Blue Room
This room has traditionally been one of the best rooms in the house. With its large and imposing four poster bed and en-suite bathroom it is always a favourite with family and guests.
The Old Nursery Room
The Old Nursery is a charming room where many generations of the family spent their early years. It was also once said to be haunted and even though the ghost was undoubtedly benevolent, the bishop of Aberdeen was invited out to carry out an exorcism in the early 1900s. This room has a double bed, plus a small single for a child, and a dedicated bathroom just a few paces down the hall.
The White Room
This room has long been a firm favourite. The furniture is almost exclusively made by Hepplewhite. It has its own dedicated, recently modernised bathroom just a few steps away.
The Holly Room
This nice large room is located at the ground floor with a nice view of the beautiful back garden, it can have either a double or two single beds and has an en-suite bathroom.
Cots are available on prior request.
