First sited in the 12th century, Dairsie has been the location of secret Scottish parliaments, military sieges, and a safe haven for escapee monarchs (James VI and I in 1583). After a long period of housing the local Archbishops of St. Andrews, and passing through the hands of various Scottish peerage, it was left to ruin in the 19th century. It was bought and rebuilt as a family home in 1992 by the current owner who, whilst ensuring that it had all the modern comforts of a family home, worked hard to restore the castle to its original Medieval character.
