My Most Memorable Castle Experiences

I’ve been lucky enough to visit quite a few castles, some for work and some on personal visits, and I enjoy the variety of the different properties.

The history of Huntington Castle and the storytelling by its owner Alex makes this one I’ll always remember, from the original arrow slits in the walls to tales of the dowry box in the parlour.

Clontarf Castle’s grand chandeliers and luxurious decor make a very different statement, and the staff are always ready with a friendly welcome! A quick visit to Ballinlough Castle earlier this year was a true pleasure. This is a real family home and I was welcomed with a gorgeous meal at the kitchen table, before a wander round the gorgeous grounds.

My work visits have also taken me to Kinross House, where grandeur is at every turn and the gardens and private island spectacular, and Blairquhan Castle, where I experienced the best ‘Address to the Haggis’ I have ever seen. The most sumptuous meal, cooked by a chef I’ve had the pleasure of meeting on more than one occasion.

Two more fond memories, for very different reasons, are Whisky tasting at Dalhousie Castle - special as we were there as a full work team, and an overnight stay at Melville Castle with my family. Introducing my 23-year-old son to this property was fabulous, and he enjoyed it just as much as I did!

My Other Interests

When I’m not at work I love gardening, walking, and I’m a bit of a gym fiend! I’m known for being partial to the odd glass of wine too!
