This Ayrshire castle sleeps up to 30 guests. With stone walls as old as the encircling hills and interiors as fresh as the garden’s seasonal flowers, Blair Estate is available to hire on an exclusive-use basis for corporate and incentive events, family gatherings and celebrations, as well as self-catering use, facilitated by the East Wing and Garden Cottage.
Being just 25 minutes from Glasgow Airport and Glasgow City, and only 75 minutes from Edinburgh, Blair Estate is ideally situated for easy air, rail and road access.
Or, if you prefer coastlines to concrete jungles, Blair Castle and Estate sit just a 15-minute drive from Largs Marina, with a variety of watersports. Nearby Wemyss Bay and Ardrossan hold ferry terminals to the Isles of Bute and Arran respectively, the latter of which being described as "Scotland in miniature".
Blair Castle sleeps 30 adults in 15 bedrooms. Each room is an embodiment of what “castle-comfort” should look like, with luxury linens, tasteful decor and beautiful historical features.
Taking its name from the year of the South Wing’s construction, the 1668 Drawing Room is a large, spacious room with two open fires and comfortable seating areas, perfect for both relaxation and enjoying lively conversation.
The Cecily Blair Sitting Room and Family Sitting Room make for home-from-home comfort, and the William Fordyce Blair Panelled Dining Room facilitates the most resplendent of functions and stately suppers within its grand, oak-clad walls.
There are three flexible function rooms, namely the Ingle Room, the Undercroft and the Guard Room. In the Guard Room, the remains of the original Norman Tower can be seen, which date back to c.1105.
To make your stay as comfortable as possible, Blair Castle Estate offers a full staff, including housekeeping, an Executive Chef and a Head Butler with a wealth of experience garnered from several private households.
Owing to its commanding seat over stunning scenery and flawlessly appointed interiors, Blair Castle could quite appropriately be dubbed a perfect location for a celebration. Blair Castle East Wing
Sleeping up to ten guests over four floors in five spacious bedrooms, the East Wing of Blair Castle holds a large sitting room and well-equipped family kitchen and dining area.
Often referred to as “golfing paradise”, the Ayrshire Coast is home to a number of championship courses, namely Royal Troon (15 miles), Prestwick Golf Club (16 miles), Trump Turnberry (35 miles) and Dundonald Links. For keen spectators and players alike, Blair Castle Estate is the perfect base providing luxury accommodation.
Activities available on castle grounds:
- A private whisky and chocolate tasting in the castle’s Guard Room, the oldest room in the property dating back to c1105.
- A 4 x 4 driving experience in the castle estate grounds, which can also include some team challenges such as blind driving.
- A clan warrior style mini-Highland games in the castle grounds.
- Foraging in the castle estate with a local expert followed by ‘wild’ gin cocktails.
- The Blair ‘Wee Cumbrae’ challenge where guests test their wilderness and survival skills on a nearby private island, all under the guidance of an ex-army major.
- Mindfulness and forest-bathing experiences in the castle grounds.
- De-stressing yoga classes in the Undercroft.
- For a real feel for life in the Scottish countryside a range of country sports can be arranged, from fly fishing to deer stalking. Guests can even take part in a simulated pheasant shoot in the estate grounds or simply try their hand at clay-pigeon shooting.
The history of Blair Castle stretches back over 900 years. Making yourself at home within walls laid by Norman Invaders is beyond a novelty.
In 1165, King William I of Scotland conferred the Barony of Blair upon Jean Francois. His son, William, then changed the family name to Blair. Bryce de Blair fought with William Wallace and Robert the Bruce, and his descendant, Sir David de Blair, was knighted by Robert the Bruce at Bannockburn in 1314. A truer Scottish heritage is hard to find.
Colonel Frederick Gordon Blair was an aide de camp to King George V. Frederick’s only child, Cecily Madeline Blair, never married so on her passing, Blair House was inherited by Colonel Michael Borwick and finally onto his nephew, Luke Borwick. Blair Castle was the seat of the Barony of Blair for about 24 generations.
Blair Castle and Estate is available for exclusive use with staff and all meals and is able to sleep up to 30.
