The history of Blair Castle stretches back over 900 years. Making yourself at home within walls laid by Norman Invaders is beyond a novelty.

In 1165, King William I of Scotland conferred the Barony of Blair upon Jean Francois. His son, William, then changed the family name to Blair. Bryce de Blair fought with William Wallace and Robert the Bruce, and his descendant, Sir David de Blair, was knighted by Robert the Bruce at Bannockburn in 1314. A truer Scottish heritage is hard to find.

Colonel Frederick Gordon Blair was an aide de camp to King George V. Frederick’s only child, Cecily Madeline Blair, never married so on her passing, Blair House was inherited by Colonel Michael Borwick and finally onto his nephew, Luke Borwick. Blair Castle was the seat of the Barony of Blair for about 24 generations.

Blair Castle and Estate is available for exclusive use with staff and all meals and is able to sleep up to 30.
