This refined château is situated in serene grounds fringed by beautiful Dordogne countryside. Perched on a tiny hill, it provides stunning views of the surrounding hills and woods and its well-tended garden enhances the breath-taking scenery. Château de Lasfonds provides easy access to major cities such as Bordeaux and Paris, making it a convenient base from which to explore France.

Built in the 1800s, the property impresses with its traditional Neo-Gothic and Neo-Renaissance architectural designs creating a symmetrical façade. Its pale stone, weathered in parts, adds to its charm, whilst the tall topiary trees mirror the castle’s turrets and gabled roofs. Inside, generously-sized white-walled rooms are filled with natural light and styled with contemporary furniture, bold pops of colour and tactile fabrics.

A timeless elegance

Ideal for a private stay with up to 18 family or friends, a celebratory event or a romantic getaway, Château de Lasfonds can be hired on either a self-catered basis, or with meals and a concierge service included.

Unwind and luxuriate in one of four exquisite, grandly-named bedrooms in the main building, together sleeping up to eight adults (there is a sofa bed for children and cot if needed). Additional accommodation sleeping ten is available a short walk across the lawn on the estate.

The 19th-century château has retained many of its original characteristics and its long elegant windows offer far-reaching unspoiled views. Each room has been thoughtfully decorated and restored to provide modern comfort in a historic setting.

The four-storey château features numerous public rooms. From indoor and outdoor dining, a terrace and lounge areas on the Garden Floor to an art gallery and social spaces on the Ground Floor to an entertainment room on the First Floor, guests are encouraged to enjoy each specifically designed space to its utmost during their restful stay.

Utilise the fully-equipped kitchen to prepare your own meals or hand it over to a private chef to cook-up personalised gourmet feasts at the château.

The south-facing terrace features comfy sun loungers, and seats up to ten people on a large dining table.

The 6.5 hectare estate features renovated outbuildings designed in a traditional village-house French style that provide additional entertainment for guests, including a large heated outdoor pool, games and fitness area and additional cottage accommodation.

The pristinely-maintained gardens can be admired from the plentiful and variedly styled outdoor furniture, as you rest, read or spend quality time with loved ones.

History

Château de Lasfonds traces its history back to the Napoleonic era. Jacques Luce Lucien Janet de Lasfonds inherited the land in 1844 and initiated the transformation of this quaint hamlet into a splendid château in 1856.

The château features 4 bedrooms, each with a king-size bed. Additionally, the outbuildings include several cottages that can accommodate a further 10 guests, in 5 bedrooms.

To make sure your accommodations are always clean and comfortable, the château will be cleaned for 6 hours in the middle of the week which can be split into two 3-hour cleanings, if preferred. Fresh bed linens are provided weekly and fresh towels are on-hand for your use.

The groundskeeper works Monday to Friday to maintain the garden and look after the estate. If you prefer total privacy he can leave the property during your stay.

If you need assistance planning your vacation, a concierge service can make your experience even more special. With over 20 years in the region, the concierge is fluent in English, very well-connected, and accommodating. They offer services such as hiring a private chef, organising photo shoots, making tour or restaurant reservations, and arranging day trips or transportation.

Château de Lasfonds sits right in between Charente and Dordogne in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. To the east are historic villages and the renowned cuisine of the French Perigord. The celebrated wine regions of Bordeaux and Cognac are to the south and west. The beaches at the French Atlantic coast are also easily accessible for a day trip.

From Paris, take the speedy 2.5-hour TGV high-speed train-ride to Angoulême, and from there, the château is only a 35-minute drive away. It is close to various airports, including Cognac Airport for private jets.

It is recommended to rent a car or arrange a permanent transportation service for the duration of your stay.

Trusted GuestStaying at Château de Lasfonds was honestly a dream! We wanted something different, something unique, something European — and then a friend proposed to rent a castle. As crazy as it sounded, we found Lasfonds and it was a perfect fit. The communication with the team was super easy. When we arrived, the place was even better than the pictures. The location is great, surrounded by its own parkland and with amazing views of the forest. A few times we saw foxes and deers in the morning playing in the yard. Everything promised in the listing was there and working perfectly, from the wifi to ovens and the gym. There’s a lot to do nearby, so apart from wine, cognac and food tours, we did go karting, horseback riding, explored local ancient villages and food markets. We stayed with a group of 12 friends, and at $15 grand per week in low season, we thought it was a great deal for such a special and luxurious experience. So, if like us you are seeking a unique castle escape, Lasfonds must be one of the best castle for rent in France!
Trusted GuestWhat a wonderful stay we had at Chateau de Lasfonds. A stunning chateau, grounds and surrounding 360 degree vistas, where you can escape into your own private hideaway. The flexibility of the space in the chateau and outbuildings means you have sufficient room for a small family gathering, all the way to a large group of friends, or extended family holiday. The chateau has a great feel due to the thorough renovation and means you have the ultimate in comfort for your stay. We loved spending evenings moving from the family / dining / kitchen space, on to the large terrace, which leads directly from the lower level. The ability to nip back inside to get your next course, or another bottle, right next to the manicured terrace meant you were able to relax and enjoy the space. The pool is wonderful, a great temperature and has outdoor entertainment space and barbecue, with the gites and other spaces surrounding the pool. The grounds are wonderful rolling countryside, with views as far as the eye can see where you can enjoy lovely picnics. The chateau is perfectly located to explore the Charente, Dordogne and further afield to the Bourgogne, with quaint villages, towns and vineyards never far away. If you are looking for a castle to rent in France, look no further than Chateau de Lasfonds, you won’t regret it.

Communication with the team was smooth—they provided all the details and were very accommodating. The château was stunning, the outbuildings comfortable, and the gardens beautiful. The team connected us with a concierge who arranged private chefs, Michelin restaurant reservations, and activities like wine tasting and a private photo shoot. On grandma’s birthday, the hosts gifted her a thoughtful goodie basket with local treats. While we stayed mostly in the château, the grandparents later moved to the lavender cottage, which they found charming. This is an excellent French château for family celebrations, and we had a wonderful time.

From the outset, when the team picked us up from the Angouleme train station to the very last day when we received the “go away” gifts, the experience was enjoyable and uncomplicated. The Château was spotless and beautifully maintained, making us feel at home immediately. Every facility was top-notch, from the well-equipped kitchen, nice mattresses, the latest PlayStation and those huge TVs and Sonos sound boxes everywhere. The outbuildings are more dated but still comfortable and practical. The location offered tranquillity while still being close to local attractions - we did whitewater rafting, village hopping, visited ancient caves with prehistoric art, did wine tasting and ate at tons of Michelin restaurants. For the luxury and experience provided, the pricing also felt very reasonable. For picky travellers like us, this is the best luxury Château in France for a friends lavish getaway! We can't wait to return!
