Cluny Castle
Aberdeenshire, Scotland
Exclusive Use
You can have the venue to yourself, sleeps 30 guests in 15 rooms
Surrounded by the boundless beauty of Aberdeenshire, Cluny Castle has been in the same family for generations. It remains, as it has always been, a family home - lived in, cared for, and available for a limited number of private stays and celebrations each year.
Whether you are gathering across generations, marking an occasion that deserves a setting to match, or simply looking for somewhere to spend a few unhurried days together, the castle is yours to enjoy exclusively and in complete privacy, from the moment you arrive to the moment you leave. The hardest part, guests invariably find, is leaving.
Cluny has been evolving since the 16th century, from a fortified tower house to the romantic castellated mansion it is today. You feel that layered history the moment you arrive. From the outside, it is what you hope a Scottish castle will look like, and somehow even more so in person. Inside, centuries of restoration and family life have produced rooms that are richly decorated, full of antiques, family portraits, and the level of detail that only accumulates over generations.
The estate stretches across 300 acres of Aberdeenshire countryside and, whatever time of year you visit, the place has a way of making the outside world feel very far away indeed.
Stay
Cluny sleeps up to 30 guests across 15 beautifully appointed bedrooms, each one individually decorated and furnished in the style of a historic laird's home - traditional, warm, and full of the character that comes with a house of this age. Nine en-suite bedrooms accommodate up to 18 guests in the main castle, while the West Wing apartment provides accommodation for a further 12, including a ground-floor double en-suite room for guests with accessibility requirements.
The West Wing apartment includes its own fully-equipped kitchen allowing you complete flexibility throughout your stay, whether you are looking for a fully-staffed option or prefer the independence of self-catering, Cluny Castle can accommodate both.
Every room is thoughtfully prepared with the care and attention you would expect, featuring crisp fresh linen, sumptuous bathrobes, organic luxury toiletries, and stunning views directly over the estate – waking to the sight of Aberdeenshire’s rolling hills and woodland on a clear morning is one of the real pleasures of a stay at Cluny.
Events
Cluny has been the backdrop to extraordinary gatherings for centuries, and that tradition continues today. The castle lends itself naturally to a wide range of occasions, from family gatherings, milestone celebrations to corporate retreats and restorative escapes, with each one receiving the same level of care and attention.
When you stay at Cluny, the castle and grounds are yours for the duration, with no other guests, no shared spaces, no interruptions and no schedule imposed from outside; just the estate, the team, and the people you have chosen to bring together.
The Dining Room and Drawing Room provide elegant settings for intimate executive dinners, while the Tenants' Hall can accommodate larger gatherings of up to 90 guests. For grander large-scale occasions, the castle grounds offer spectacular marquee locations, set against the backdrop of Cluny's historic façade.
Surrounded by nature and far removed from everyday distractions, Cluny provides a memorable setting for gatherings of all kinds, welcoming groups from 2 to 200 guests.
History
The Gordon family have called this castle 'home' for nearly four centuries. Dating back to the 16th century, Cluny Castle has been lived in, cared for, and passed down through the same family for over 400 years. It is not a restored country house hotel or managed estate; it is a family home, and that is felt from the moment you cross the threshold.
Leisure
A stay at Cluny can be as active or as relaxed as you would like. Some guests arrive with a full itinerary in mind; others spend their days exploring the grounds, sharing long meals, and enjoying the luxury of having nowhere they need to be.
The Team
Behind every stay at Cluny is a small, dedicated team who have been part of the castle's story for many years. They are on hand to ensure everything unfolds seamlessly; attentive without being intrusive, and genuinely invested in making your time at the property exceptional.
No two stays at Cluny are ever quite the same. Working behind the scenes, the experienced team collaborates with a trusted network of local guides, instructors, chefs, wellbeing practitioners, and activity providers to curate experiences designed around each individual group.
Whether you arrive with a carefully planned itinerary or seek inspiration and recommendations as the days unfold, the team will tailor every aspect of your stay to reflect your interests and priorities, creating an experience that feels personal, effortless, and entirely your own.
