Hedingham Castle, surrounded by ancient ramparts and Medieval parkland, overlooks a sea of seemingly endless countryside on the Essex-Suffolk border. This 900-year-old estate, filled with woodlands and beautiful landscaped gardens, is just over an hour from London.

Privately owned by the Lindsay Family, Hedingham Castle is a timeless and romantic haven and is among the best preserved Norman keeps in England.

The Royal Chamber

The Royal Chamber is available to book on a bed and breakfast basis for 2 people.

Royal Chamber 1

This exquisite hideaway and luxurious bedroom retreat is located on the very top floor of Hedingham Castle, within the castle keep, and is the only one of its kind in the country.

Draped in regal reds and golds and lit by two elegant candelabra chandeliers, the large room exudes ambiance. Its history and character is defined by exposed stone walls and wooden rafters and it commands glorious countryside views from authentic windows set in deep architraves.

Rest in a sumptuous super-king bed that is absolutely fit for royalty; a grand four-poster featuring beautiful ornate detailing in solid wood. Snuggle into the luxurious 400-thread count bedding atop a deep mattress, draw the hand-made drapes and forget about the world below.

Within the self-contained sanctuary, you’ll find a spacious double bath, big enough for two, that blends seamlessly into the surrounding décor. Luxuriate in this roomy bath-tub, pour yourself a glass of chilled champagne and let stresses melt away.

Unfortunately The Royal Chamber is not suitable for children.

Dining

A delicious continental breakfast is served in The Royal Chamber on the beautiful oak table set for two. Freshly prepared fruit, pastries and juices are presented using the finest crockery and glassware. All catering at the castle is made using locally sourced produce and ingredients. Also included within your stay is a bottle of Champagne and chocolates.

History

Hedingham Castle is privately owned by the Lindsay Family, descendants of the Earl of Oxford who built it originally, and has a significant, eclectic history spanning 900 years. It has seen Normans, Kings and Queens through its existence and has played a part in historic sieges, World Wars and the Magna Carta. As the custodians change the history continues; Hedingham is filled with tales and stories, you only have to look…

Hedingham Castle Grounds

The grounds at Hedingham Castle comprise classical sweeping landscapes and romantic gardens full of secret spaces. Whether you have just arrived down the tree-lined drive, are on the motte and bailey looking out over Essex farmland or wandering through the lime avenue by the lake, there is a tangible sense of history. The changing seasons are very apparent in the grounds, adding to the sense of adventure and wonder; bluebells and daffodils preside in spring; rhododendrons and tuneful birds welcome the summer whilst autumn’s colour is dazzling and winter brings its famed collection of snowdrops.

Prices

The Royal Chamber is available on a bed and breakfast basis from £ 545 per night, including a bottle of Champagne, chocolates and a continental breakfast for two. (Please note that The Royal Chamber sleeps only 2 adults). Maximum 2-night stay, Monday-Thursday only.

Maria, AustraliaA great experience. I loved the atmosphere of the entire keep. It was fascinating ??
Candice, AustraliaWhat a dream! We were lucky enough to be checked in by the owner who showed us around the whole castle and shared the interesting history of it. The room itself was everything that the photos promised and more. It was beautifully authentic but with all the modern amenities you need for a comfortable stay. The bed was super cosy and I can honestly say that of the 5 weeks I spent travelling Europe and the UK, it was the best night's sleep I had! We took a walk around the grounds and it was just magical. A truly once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Trusted GuestLovely experience from start to finish - from dealing with Sarah who was extremely friendly and helpful, meeting Kate to show us around the Castle to the actual stay. Despite the noises during the night (which I think (we hope) was the heating), the bed was super warm and comfy and it was a lovely touch with the champagne. My husband was thoroughly pleased with his surprise 50th birthday gift. Thank you
