Imaginatively restored 16th-century castle on Scotland's west coast

Situated at the top of Kilmartin Glen, on the beautiful Argyll coast, this 500-year-old castle is offered in its entirety for intimate weddings for up to ten guests.

The character of Kilmartin

Nestled deep in the Scottish countryside, the 16th-century castle is a treasure trove of delights, offering modern luxury under vaulted stone ceilings. From roll-top copper baths and glorious rain showers to sumptuous soft furnishings and original artworks, each room and space is incomparably unique and offers a comfort and sense of joy that will stay with you. Weave between floors up and down spiral staircases and discover tiny rooms through stone archways. Explore, forage and run wild in the surrounding castle grounds, taking in the mesmerising views over moorland and forested hillsides.

Either fill the five bedrooms with your wedding guests to squeeze out every second of fun with loved ones over your wedding weekend, or the two of you can spread out across the castle, keeping the inside a surprise until the Big Day. Kilmartin Castle is a small venue with a big personality. Its friendly owners cannot wait to welcome you and your carefully selected guests to indulge in a wedding that will be remembered for its style, atmosphere and setting.

Ceremony and drinks reception

Grand Hall ceremony

Ideally sized and equipped to host your small wedding, the castle has varied indoor and outdoor spaces, perfect for a relaxed ceremony.

Owners Simon and Stef exchanged their own vows here and believe there is something precious and special about a small-scale ceremony. They appreciate the unique romance of a truly intimate wedding. Where would be more fitting to exchange your vows than in a place that really understands you and is thrilled to be a huge part of your intimate wedding?

Kilmartin Castle ceremony

The Grand Hall is ideal for the ceremony; you and your guests can gather closely around the fire as you celebrate with a drink. Alternatively, have a piper out on the moors and exchange your vows outdoors. You can book a local registrar or a Humanist celebrant for a non-religious ceremony.

Intimate wedding breakfast and catering

Dining room

Depending on the size of your wedding, the wedding breakfast and reception would be held in either The Glasshouse, located in the castle grounds, just a short walk from the main building, or inside the castle’s Dining Room. The Glasshouse can seat up to 20 people (including the wedding couple) whilst the Dining Room can seat up to 10 guests.

The owners can recommend a chef who will create home-cooked, mouth-watering dishes for your wedding breakfast and throughout your weekend. Served on antique tableware on an intimate candlelit table, the food will be just one of the many highlights of your wedding. You can also choose to self-cater (or a mix of both!). Simon and Stef will be happy to introduce you to their local florist and photographer who will work together to make your day bespoke.

Accommodation

Bedroom 1
Bedroom 2
Bedroom 3
Bedroom 4

You will have exclusive use of the five guest bedrooms, offering accommodation for up to ten adults (plus your four-legged friends, should you wish them to be part of the celebrations). Each bedroom is individually styled and named with a character of its own.

A true hidden gem

And if you need a little more encouragement to choose this wonderful property for your wedding then note that Kilmartin Glen was named the fourth best place to visit in the world in 2023 by The New York Times.

The castle is located over two hours’ drive from Glasgow or three hours from Edinburgh; even the journey there is delightful in itself offering a trip through the wooded glens and quiet lochs of Trossachs National Park.

Important to note:

Only those staying in the castle have access to the castle itself as this is booked as accommodation and not a venue. The Glasshouse will be your venue for dining when groups are larger than ten for weddings and events.

Prices

Three nights' hire of Kilmartin Castle on a self-catered basis starts at £2400 for 2025. The owners can put you in touch with suppliers for dinner and other requirements, which will be quoted separately.

Location

Kilmartin Castle is approx 2.5 hours' drive from Glasgow or 3 hours' drive from Edinburgh. Once you've left the cities behind, the journey is quite picturesque and includes a trip through the wooded glens and quiet lochs of Trossachs National Park.

Graham , United KingdomJust stunning. Awesome renovation which has maintained the authentic feel of the 16th Century castle. Warm (even when -3 deg outside), and homely, filled with eclectic artworks and quirky furnishings. This is a truly amazing place for a party of 10. From the exposed stonework inside to the landscaped surroundings and Glasshouse, outside catering area and wild swimming pool, everything has been thought through to give guests a magical experience. Each bedchamber is unique with en-suite rainfall showers, ceramics and toiletries. The Grand Hall is homely with its large wood burner, lighting, sound system and AV projector. A place to relax as a group. Even the outside loos are a feature in themselves complete with mini wood burner for chilly nights. Check out the cisterns! The owners have created a romantic hideaway. The well-deserved accolades keep coming. We couldn’t fault the generosity of the owners Simon and Stef. All our needs on arrival were provided…essential kitchen foodstuffs (eggs, bread etc). Fires are ready to be lit. At check in important information such as use of ovens etc was given. A local piper was found to welcome our guests…who were all blown away with their stay. Thank you Stef and Simon for a memorable experience. And to Celtic Castles for all your help during the booking process. You were attentive to our needs and made the whole process easy to use.
Trusted GuestThanks you so much for the heart-warming, life-changing experience - it was even better than we hoped for, loved it so much - and all your wonderful experience guides! You've created an amazing place.
Trusted GuestWe started in the early spring to plan a tour of the UK in the fall. One thing we knew we wanted to do was stay overnight in a castle, one that felt like a real castle. After searching the internet for some time, we found Kilmartin Castle, which was perfect. However, the only thing available for the months of Sept or Oct was for 1 night in the smallest room. We planned the rest of our trip around that one night - and we weren't disappointed! The atmosphere - great detail was given in keeping everything in period, yet comfortable! Delicious food, beautiful grounds, delightful host & hostess & other fun guests!
Trusted GuestWe love an interesting or quirky place to stay. We regularly visit Kilmartin as a day trip, but fancied staying overnight for a change. The decor was exceptional, from the light switches to the door furniture. I was delighted to see there was no TV in the room. If you want to watch TV, while staying in a castle, with over 350 ancient sites on your doorstep, you're doing it wrong. Simo & Stef supply coffee and loose leaf tea, with fresh milk, in the room. They even have their own brand of coff The castle is beautifully restored by the current owners. Our room had a vaulted ceiling and lovely en-suite with sliding barn door and walk in 'rain' shower. Breakfast options (inc. vegan) were fab.
