Gardens/Estate

Colourful and beautifully-designed floral displays occupy the serene and lovingly well-kept gardens, with seasonal flowers and topiary trees interspersing the tall trees across the 10-acre parkland.

History

Built in 1350 during the reign of Edward III, Langley Castle has retained its architectural integrity throughout the years and is regarded as one of the few Medieval fortified castle hotels in England. Over the past 600 years, the castle has been owned, together with its estate, by lords and ladies, whose names were frequently associated with the turbulent history of the kingdom.

This was our first Christmas away from home, we had a difficult year and felt we needed to do something special. We were not disappointed, we were treated so well by management and all the staff. We stayed in a castle view room, it was a very short walk from the main castle building fortunately the weather was dry so it wasn’t a problem although there were umbrellas in the room. It was comfortable with good shower and was warm. Prior to arrival we received various emails about dining times and the Christmas Day menu. Everything seemed well organised and the food was exceptional. At first it was strange spending Christmas with people we didn’t know but by the end of the third day we all felt like friends. It was interesting to learn the history of the castle to confirm it was the real thing. On Boxing Day we visited Hadrian’s Wall and walked to where the Gap Tree had been. Only thing we missed was a clear night to see the stars, no way of controlling that. By the time we left we were thinking about doing the same next year that’s how good it was.

The staff was extremely accommodating and welcoming. Our rooms were very cozy and felt like home. We also loved how cute our takeaway gear. Breakfast was excellent as well. We’d love to stay again!
