Roch Castle

Sitting high upon its stone mound looking out over St Bride's Bay and the Preseli Hills, Pembrokeshire’s Roch Castle is a spectacular 12th-century fortification on the outside and a five-star contemporary property on the inside.

The Castle

Roch Castle has six bedrooms with views over the coast and surrounding countryside. The interior has been given a tasteful, contemporary look that highlights the ancient stone that forms this towering structure.

All of Roch Castle's bedrooms are en-suite and are equipped with all the expected necessities. The beds combine the highest quality Sealy mattresses with hypo-allergenic Comforel topper, duvet and pillows and 300-thread-count linens, ensuring a delightfully satisfying night’s sleep.

Specially commissioned works by five local artists are displayed around the castle.

There is a spacious lounge with comfortable sofas, but the jewel of the castle is “The Sun Room”, located on the fourth floor, which has floor-to-ceiling glass walls and an alfresco-viewing platform on the original battlements, affording guests a scenic and special space to relax.

Dining

Dinner is not served at the castle, but for your dining requirements, Roch Castle recommends the Twr y Felin Hotel, just over 15 minutes' drive away.

The 3-AA Rosette Blas Restaurant promises a feast for the senses. A former windmill, the space is designed to reflect the simplicity, elegance and history of the building, whilst the menu offers contemporary dining, inspired by the season and locality, echoing Wales and its produce.

Dinner is available between 5.30pm and 9pm. Booking is advised. Children's menus are available; children dining with their families can be seated between 5.30pm and 6pm.

Activities

Roch Castle is close to St Davids, the UK's smallest city, and the beautiful Pembrokeshire coast. Trek the coast path, walk barefoot on the beach, absorb the heritage sites, galleries and gardens; sample the food, drink and culture; forage and discover. If you’re brave enough, jump into the sea!

History

Roch Castle was first constructed in 1195 on what is known as the “Landsker Line”. This imagined line crosses east to west through southern Wales, and represents the historical division between English and Welsh-speaking Wales. At the time of its construction, Roch Castle served as one of a group of border strongholds that fortified Anglicised Wales from the independent Welsh to the North.
