Springkell

Nestled in Eaglesfield, Lockerbie, Springkell is a magnificent Palladian mansion house dating back to 1734. Offering stunning bedrooms and elegant dining, it can accommodate up to 62 adults on an exclusive-use basis and is situated 6 miles from Gretna Green, close to the border with England.

Springkell comprises 2 stunning honeymoon suites, 3 family bedrooms and 16 deluxe bedrooms. A total of 21 bedrooms in the house can sleep up to 49 guests. The interiors were designed exclusively by the designers who created the bedrooms at The Goring Hotel, London, for the Duchess of Cambridge.

The sitting room has a large TV complete with media player and games console.

There are 3 cottages a short distance away from the main house. Chauffeur’s Cottage sleeps 4 guests in 2 bedrooms, 1 double bedroom and 1 twin, though this can be altered to suite your needs. Kennel Cottage has 2 bedrooms, a double and a twin, though this can also be altered if required. Stables Cottage was completely refurbished in 2021 and has a super-king bedroom upstairs with a small single bedroom next door. Additional beds can be added to the cottages to bring the overall occupancy up to a maximum of 17.

In total Springkell sleeps 49 in the main house and 17 in the cottages, making 66 in all.

A variety of menus can be offered, based on your preferences. Springkell can accommodate up to 80 people for fine dining and 200 people for a buffet-style experience. Also on offer are appetising bar meals as well as snacks and hot and cold sandwiches.

History

In 1893 the Heron Maxwells sold Springkell to Sir Jabez Edward Johnson-Ferguson, 1st Baronet, and during the next decade the interior of the house was entirely reconstructed. Timber, mainly from the estate, was used to renew the old doors, panelling, wainscoting and floors; new fireplaces were put in, plate-glass replaced the Georgian sash windows and the whole house was redecorated.# History
