Your Wedding Ceremony

At Traquair, you can be married in the house, the private chapel, or the grounds.

Religious Ceremonies

The Catholic chapel is situated in the 18th-century wing. It is a small intimate chapel which can seat up to 50 people, but you will also feel comfortable with fewer than 10. Any religious denomination can be married in the chapel.

Civil Ceremonies

Within the main building, The Lower Drawing Room is perfect for small ceremonies of 8 people or fewer.

The High Drawing Room is the largest room in the house and is suitable for ceremonies of up to 60 people. The room dates back to the 16th century and has wonderful views of the main avenue and Bear Gates.

Outdoor Ceremonies

You can choose anywhere in the Traquair grounds for your marriage ceremony, but please see below some of the most popular locations for civil, or religious ceremonies.

Cupid’s Garden: A delightful enclosed garden at the side of the house where there is a white theme and a small stone statue of Cupid with his bow.

The Traquair Maze: A unique and popular venue for those who want a ceremony with a difference. Be married in the centre of the maze or follow the example of one gallant individual who proposed to his fiancé here, having arranged for a firework display to take place at the very moment of her acceptance.

The Yew Tree Circle: An extraordinary venue in the woodlands at the rear of the maze, where a natural circle has formed amongst some of Scotland’s oldest yew trees.

The Walled Garden: The Old Walled Garden is a favourite choice for many brides and grooms; slightly removed from the house, it creates a private space for your ceremony.

Marquee Weddings

For larger weddings of up to 100 guests, a marquee can be erected in front of the house or in the Old Walled Garden. Marquees can be as luxurious or as simple as you like, and are a great option if you are looking for music and dancing through the night.

Your Reception

The maximum number for a sit-down meal in Traquair’s Dining Room is 34 guests; however 50 can be seated by using the adjoining Lower Drawing Room.

The Still Room is a bright and friendly room, which is perfect for very small wedding meals of up to 8 people.

The stunning 17th-century Drawing Room on the first floor of the house can take up to 50 people for a stand-up drinks' reception and, if your party is under 30 guests, dancing can be arranged on a small scale; a perfect room to have drinks before and after dinner.

Accommodation

There are three luxurious bedrooms available, which are all available on a bed and breakfast basis.

The Blue and White Rooms are in the late 17th-century wing, on the ground floor.

Traquair is situated approximately 2 miles from Innerleithen, where there are a number of small hotels and B&B’s for your guests. Within 6 miles there are two larger hotels with five-star facilities.

Elizabeth, United StatesThis was our second visit after our first one 25 years ago. It’s a wonderful place to stay. We were so happy to return and find out it’s only gotten better. Amazing folks running it. It’s really feels like an honor to be staying someplace so historic and beautiful.
Trusted GuestExactly what we wanted it to be! A small and intimate wedding and thank you for making everything so memorable.
Jan Birger, NorwayThank you for a remarkable stay with such nice welcome. We enjoyed every second.
Trusted GuestA beautiful quiet place away from civilization, surrounded by nature. We spent the New Year with a family sitting by the fireplace. The cozy and pleasant atmosphere of antiquity, a lot of old books and the museum part were great. A warm welcome, it's a pity that we spent so little time there. Thank you
