My Most Memorable Castle Experiences

I have had many castle experiences as you can imagine, so to try and just pick a few is very difficult as they are all very special. I love spending time with family and friends; yes I holiday in the castles too! For me, it is also about spending time with the teams and owners at the properties.

Owners give you a different perspective about their homes; spending a weekend with the owners of Rothes Glen, Damien and Pippa, was a fabulous experience. At Blairquhan Castle, I slept in the bed used by Helen Mirren in the film ‘The Queen’. I have slept in a few beds she has slept in at various castles, but not at the same time!

Helping the new owner of Killochan Castle when he purchased his castle, I loved hearing all the stories that are hidden behind the walls of this castle. I am just back from a motorcycle tour of Ireland and we stayed with the owners of Glin Castle and Ballinlough Castle; the conversations around the dining table are always amazing.

Having time up in Scotland with the owners of Kincardine Castle on Royal Deeside was a great adventure; it felt like coming home, as I used to live in this part of the world. Just spending time in the castle gardens is always a plus for me; Glenapp was a highlight as was Candacraig up in the Scottish Highlands. I know the architect who helped to rebuild Mingary Castle and that was a special stay for me also; the list just goes on and on! I feel very privileged to have access to these amazing historic properties and hear the stories from each of them.

My Other Interests

I am a keen reader, gardener, photographer and walker, I love skiing and anything outdoors. I find solace on my adventure motorbike, I am a national observer for the Institute of advanced motorcyclists and am a trustee for a children's charity. Oh and I love staying in castles...did I mention that?!!
