Lizzy's Silver Wedding Anniversary at Peckforton Castle
Arriving at Peckforton Castle is always impressive, but when you get to share this with your very best friends it dials up the anticipation.

A Personal Celebration
I'd visited this English castle hotel earlier in the year with our team, but this stay was different. A personal celebration for our silver wedding anniversary in April 2026. The weather was perfect; wall-to-wall sunshine, and the castle truly sparkled. After checking in, we joined other guests in the garden bar, taking time to soak up the relaxed atmosphere with a glass of something special. With garden games set out, and children from a wedding enjoying the outdoor space, it was the perfect way to begin our stay.
The Tasting Menu
Having already experienced the tasting menu on a previous visit, I thought I knew what to expect, but introducing it to my husband and friends had me slightly on edge. What if they didn't enjoy it? My worries were completely unnecessary. Every course was once again impeccably presented and beautifully explained by the waiting staff. Over the course of a couple of hours, we genuinely oohed and aahed our way through each dish, each one somehow better than the last. By the end, we couldn't pick a favourite, they were all exceptional. A huge thank you to Jeremy and the team at the castle for such a memorable celebratory evening.

The Wine Cellar
After dinner, we retired to the wine cellar for a nightcap which added another dimension to the castle experience. Its unusual shape and layout create a wonderfully relaxed yet private atmosphere, with seating arranged around the edges of the room.

Sunday Morning
A restful night in comfortable rooms set us up perfectly for Sunday, starting with a superb breakfast. Maitre d', Becky, once again impressed us by remembering both our names, and the dietary requirements of our friends from the previous evening - an attention to detail that really stands out.
The Experience
Who Would I Recommend This Experience To?
Anyone who likes a contemporary style, but still wants a castle feel. Ideal for guests who enjoy fine dining, groups of friends wanting a touch of luxury, or couples looking for a romantic night away.
Who Wouldn't I Recommend This Experience To?
The whole building gives the feeling of a real castle, however, it's not quite as rustic on the inside as some properties. The 1851 Restaurant has a more contemporary feel, so this option is probably not for you if you're looking to dine surrounded by stone walls and candlelight.
Final Thoughts
The staff at Peckforton Castle are clearly proud of their setting, its history and atmosphere, and that pride translates into an effortlessly comfortable guest experience.

My role at Celtic Castles has taken me to many wonderful castles across the UK and Ireland, sometimes with colleagues, sometimes alone, but always with enjoyment. Returning here on a personal occasion and sharing it with friends made it even more special.
